Garden Acres Water Company, Inc
History

The Garden Acres Water Company was incorporated on the Tenth Day of October, 1940, for this purpose, “To supply water to the lot owners in Garden Acres Addition Plat No. 1, in Springfield Township, Clark County, Ohio; to sink wells and to make, build, construct, lay down, and maintain pumps, mains, and other pipes and appliances and reservoirs, and to do all things necessary to obtain a satisfactory water supply for the lot owners in said addition on a non-profit basis.”

This Company is owned and operated by its members and it must be understood that each and every member’s help and co-operation is required in the management as well as the operation and maintenance of this Company.

The purpose of this Company shall be to furnish water to the owners of lots Nos. 1 to 133 inclusive in Garden Acres Addition, Plat No. 1, on a non-profit basis, for the normal domestic and business usage, except where a volume of water beyond the capacity of the system will be required.  Service shall not be furnished to other lots.

In November 2007 the Garden Acres Water Co. Inc. entered into an agreement with the City of Springfield, Ohio to purchase water from them. In June of 2008 all construction was completed and we began receiving water from them.

The wellfield for the City of Springfield is located above a buried valley aquifer which provides limited natural protection from contaminants infiltrating into the aquifer. Because of this setting, the aquifer that supplies drinking water to the city of Springfield is considered susceptible to contamination. The city has developed a comprehensive wellhead protection program to manage potential sources of contamination in the protection area to minimize any impacts to the aquifer.

Authority to conduct the business and operation of the Company shall be a Board of Trustees consisting of five members, who shall be elected for one year and hold office until their successors are elected and qualified.
